Since It’s easier to copy and paste my newsletter as a blog post, that’s what I’ve decided to do. To some it may sound like a rehash of my earlier posts but to new folks it’s a quick update of what’s been going on. Enjoy! It’s been a crazy year! We’ve had a lot of updates and quite a few changes in our family. Updates: I don’t know what made me take the leap, but sometime in the last year I decided I needed a designated webpage, independent of the Long & Foster website, and all my Long & Foster brethren. I spoke with a few designers and thought it shouldn’t be too hard. Cameron, my husband, convinced me we could do this on our own. Little did I know the first hurdle would be choosing a domain name and the stress of picking a name would cripple me for an extended period of time that I’m too embarrassed to admit. Cameron was finally able to find one on the fly and GetMaggie.com was born!… Now what?…. My domain name turned out to be the easiest part and I couldn’t even take credit. Months of toiling, writing, crying, and I… read more →
The children are out of school, the “boredom” has started, and the yelling. I’m working upstairs in my office, trying to find a calm place in my mind to write my first ever blog post from this new, shiny WordPress site….and all I can hear is yelling from the first floor, and now crying. As a parent I look forward to summer vacation: no more homework, lunches to pack, harping over study habits (or the lack of), you get the idea. But after the first few days it dawns on me, like clockwork, now what? Now these people are in my office every half hour needing a mediator, asking about food choices, wanting to go somewhere, do something, or telling me how bored they are, and I’m trying to work. I have discovered, individually, my children make wonderful companions for touring property. They offer valid input and usually figure out how to work things in the home that I can’t wrap my head around (fancy delay light bulbs in every room that my patience just couldn’t allow enough time to work…kids catch these things). In closing, I will continue to use my peppy tone when responding to everything they bring… read more →

One loooong second at a time. My family will roll their eyes when I say this but, I never realized how impatient I am. Recently I had foot surgery. I’m now forced to gimp around in a boot and everywhere I need to go takes forever to get there. Don’t wait till the last second to go to the bathroom….there have been some close calls recently. Morning coffee is no joke. It’s like something straight out of a cartoon, careening around the corner, chickens flying out of the way, my boot swinging out to the side, hopping on my one good leg, flinging the bathroom door open, who cares if I close it, the damn cat will open it anyway…you get the idea. I’ve tried to make my slow hobble into a Zen learning experience…”Aren’t those nice flowers….Hm, still pretty flowers… I wonder if they made a pattern out of them?….No, no pattern…I really don’t like pansies. Pansies die so quickly in the heat…..If this takes much longer the damn flowers are going to be dead before I get into the damn building.” It’s not working out so well.

The snow has stopped, the birds are twittering (at an ungodly hour), the plants are blooming, and we all have spring fever! I love it! I’ve spent time talking to my plants…. and the weeds. I tell them how wonderful they look….or their days are numbered. I tell very few that the others are doing much better but I know they are working hard and will catch up. I have faith. This is a ritual I do every spring and I haven’t been disappointed yet. Spring fever has hit the real estate market as well and I am soaking up every second. I want to work-all the time. I’m making a bad habit of checking emails, sending replies, and doing little bits of paperwork late at night. I shouldn’t be doing it but I WANT TO. It truly is a fever. I am driving my husband crazy with marketing ideas. He cares, but not really, not this much, or not anymore. He’s willing to slap any logo on his body just to get me to stop talking about it. Well that’s all the encouragement I needed…. Look for it, coming soon…some form of wearable article with GetMaggie.com on it…maybe a… read more →
I know I should set everything up so the government isn’t making interest on my money so lets just get that argument out of the way first thing. We aren’t doing it the right way. Sure. We’ll do better next time. I promise. But now that I’ve said that, lets talk about 2013’s refund check. It’s like winning a little lottery, of our own money. Do we want a big screen TV- no. Do we want to take some kind of vacation…no. Do we want to save money for a rainy day…no. (I know there’s some serious head scratching going on right about now) We want to pay off our son’s braces. We want to set aside an emergency fund (especially after the tire slashing episode), we want to pay off the last time I had dental work (it happens more often than I would like). We want…some extra breathing room. Things have been getting kind of snug around here and the thought that Sam could be driving in a year (boys car insurance, who Hasn’t heard that horror story?!), graduating in 3 years, college just after…That was a wake up call that hit me some time last month and… read more →
maggierogers-re: 1) Last Thursday we lost the neighbor to a house fire. 2) Saturday morning a tire slashing punk took out 14 tires in the neighborhood, tagging both of ours. 3) Last night we realized the water leak in the upstairs bathroom is still not resolved. There it is, all 3 identified. Done.
I hate the snow. I can understand how that could sound pessimistic. A few days ago it was 60 degrees outside and I was talking to all the little buds in my garden. I had shrugged off the grudge I had been holding against the red robin and we were all living in peace. I was WEARING FLIP FLOPS! And then on Sunday it started to snow again. We got 6 inches. in March. Every year I say the same thing: It’s March, how could it be snowing?! I would say the same thing when I was in the military, years ago, sliding down the airfield, testing the slickness of the runway. Why am I always surprised?…. This is Facebook’s fault. That’s right. Facebook is the cause of my grumble. They allow people in warmer states to post sun-shining pictures of themselves on the beach, in the sun, with colorful toe nails and short sleeves, in February. I’m going to go bake something while I still have the energy and then off to bed. Maybe I’ll wake up and it will be spring? Humph.
I ventured into the Matrix today. It was an exhausting experience that took…about 10 minutes. A friend suggested I change the font on my blog. Apparently the old font was tough to read, “bubbly”. I Googled “how do I change the font on Tumblr?” Who knew, there is a step by step instruction guide WITH pictures. I emailed it to myself last night because I wasn’t up to venturing into the Matrix at 10:30 p.m. I needed to be fresh, thinking straight, up for the possible disaster that I could create by attempting this. Going into the Matrix at 10:30 at night only leads to drama. First thing this morning I opened up a word document, added a text box, made the box green, made the text white, and started experimenting with text. All of that took about 20 minutes. My coffee hadn’t taken full effect yet. I wrote down my chosen text (it’s on one of the sticky notes around here…) and then jumped into the rabbit hole. I’m not kidding, it’s the Matrix. There was code everywhere. It was intimidating. But I found my current font, checked it, double checked, triple checked it…re-looked up the instructions on the… read more →
